Wood-Rotax 450 Conversion Kits

AMA rules have changed the displacement of the single cylinder class at the National Level from 505cc to 450.
Larger displacement Rotax engines can easily be converted for a fraction of the cost of a new 450 motocrosser converted to dirt track configuration.
Kits consist of a short stroke crankshaft, high compression piston assembly, cylinder, and balancer shaft for the lighter short stroke cranks. Two configurations are available; 89mm bore x 72mm stroke and 90mm bore x 70.4mm stroke.
All parts are available separately. Prejetted VM44 carb and dyno tuned exhaust are also available.
Most 505 cylinder heads will fit.

Pistons, cylinders and wristpins have been failing with frightening regularity on the 450 Yamaha motors, especially with the big bore stroker motors used in dirt track competition. Ron Wood Racing Products has developed a long skirt piston and cylinder kit for the five valve Yamaha 450 to prevent piston rocking and breakage under severe race conditions. This eliminates the piston skirt coming out past the bottom of the cylinder at bottom dead center, especially important in long stroke applications. An added benefit is better ring seal and longer ring life for higher and more consistent horsepower. Sleeve material is high quality aircraft aluminum alloy, not common in motorcycle applications. 97mm and 98mm pistons are a special Wood Racing design with a longer skirt and tighter tolerances manufactured by CP Pistons Our goal is to have a kit that can last the entire season. We may have it with this setup. Ron has over 100 dyno runs and a full track practice day on the cylinder and piston shown and on teardown it looks nearly new. The engine is making over 70 horsepower, too!
